Capital Projects Engineer

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Capital Projects Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is integral to the successful delivery of capital projects, ensuring that engineering solutions are implemented in line with budget, schedule, safety, and quality standards. The Capital Projects Engineer will work on a range of infrastructure and facility projects, overseeing the design, planning, execution, and commissioning phases.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning & Design:
    • Lead the design and planning phases of capital projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and project specifications.
    • Develop detailed engineering designs and solutions that meet technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
    • Review project scope and prepare comprehensive project plans, timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee the execution of capital projects, managing resources, budgets, timelines, and contractor performance.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including construction, procurement, and operations, to ensure project success.
    • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Procurement & Vendor Management:
    • Manage the procurement process for project materials, equipment, and services.
    • Evaluate and select suppliers and contractors based on cost, quality, and delivery performance.
    • Monitor vendor performance to ensure contract terms and conditions are met.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure all capital projects comply with applicable safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation plans throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Budget & Cost Control:
    • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring that projects are delivered within budget constraints.
    • Identify and resolve issues that could lead to project cost overruns.
    • Approve and track all project-related expenditures, ensuring proper documentation and approval processes are followed.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to manage expectations and provide project updates.
    • Serve as a liaison between project teams, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Commissioning & Handover:
    • Lead commissioning activities to ensure that projects are completed on time and meet technical specifications.
    • Prepare detailed handover documentation, including drawings, maintenance manuals, and as-built records.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in capital project management, engineering, or a related field.
    • Proven experience managing large-scale infrastructure or facility projects from concept to completion.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
    • Strong knowledge of engineering design principles, construction techniques, and industry standards.
    • Understanding of relevant regulatory and safety standards.
  • Certifications:
    • PMP (Project Management Professional) or similar project management certification preferred.
    • Engineering professional certifications (e.g., PE, P.Eng.) are a plus.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines.
    • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.

On-site Monday through Friday work week. Will consider relocation candidates.
